Problem

The aviation industry accounts for approx. 2.5% of global CO2 emissions, but this percentage is expected to increase, as emerging economies around the world turn to commercial flight. To offset this, the airline industry has committed to achieving net-zero emissions by 2050. To hit this aggressive target, airlines need to transition to Sustainable Aviation Fuel (SAF), blending traditional jet fuels with a bio-fuel alternative that emits less carbon. However, as all airlines turn to SAF, current supplies will not meet the growing demand.

Solution

PFT Alexander and Toptech Systems are collaborating on SAF implementations at airports in San Francisco, Las Vegas, Oakland, San Jose, and others. Currently, four refineries in California are converting to process SAF and other “Green Fuels”. Since lives depend on the quality of the SAF Fuel, PFT Alexander needs to assure precise blends, using provers to assure quality, with quarterly calibrations, as well as using precise metering, blending and loading systems, including Toptech System’s Multiload II+ “Part of converting these refineries and terminals to renewable fuels means replacing outdated and unreliable presets,” says Bernie Mock, of PFT Alexander. “Multiload II+ is the latest technology. It’s reliable, well supported and our preset of choice.” It offers so much flexibility to change and adapt to the blend requirements as the percentage of the SAF and other Green Fuels continues to increase and settle into new standards.
